The Shadow of a Boy

Award Winning Welsh Play Shows September16th – 26th Featuring Jeremy LaPalme, Peter Jensen, Tanya Lynne, & Janice Hawke Directed by Adam Bailey

The company that’s been called "thoughtful, brave" by NOW and has been credited for "bringing Toronto up to date" by Eye Weekly for giving Toronto its overdue premiers of international works such as Terrorism and Vinegar Tom is doing it again on September 16th with Gary Owen’s The Shadow of a Boy. Winner of the George Devine Award and the Meyer Whitworth Award, this play examines the inner life of Luke, a ten year old orphan in the early 1980's who lives with his grandmother and is tormented by Katie, a neighborhood girl one-year older than himself. Without a father to turn to Luke turns to his favorite comic book character, a space explorer named The Shadow, whose job it is to judge the inhabitants of Earth. “This thought provoking play,” by the author of Crazy Gary’s Mobile Disco, “tackles the anxieties that can haunt adolescence and the lies that adults tell to protect children from learning too soon the harsh realities of life” (The Stage, UK).
